With our one-on-one instruction, lessons are targeted to the specific needs of the individual student. Each session is one hour in duration and can be increased to multiple sessions by request.
Students are assessed to determine their level of reading, writing and spoken English. The results determine proper placement and a program is developed based on their specific area(s) of need.
Classes are private, confidential and one-on-one. We recognize that students learning to develop their second language often benefit, at least at first, from privacy and confidentiality due to insecurities with a new language. Our building is divided into private classrooms so that students interested in one-on-one get the quiet and confidential learning environment that they desire.
Conversational English Small Group Peer Classes
These classes are not only designed to integrate and immerse students in English, but they are done with both English and Second Language English speaking peers. Additionally, unique opportunities for social and cultural language practice help students feel more accepted and comfortable in Cape Breton.
Group Reading and WritingInstruction:
Instruction in Reading and Writing improvement is also available in a group setting. Groups do not exceed 4 students per class, to ensure that students get some individualized attention.
Assessment is the initial step to becoming enrolled in group sessions because there are different levels of reading, writing and language proficiency. After the brief assessment, students are then placed in the group that fits his/her needs, ie level. Day and Weekend classes are available for group instruction. Availability of sessions is based on student enrolment.
