LearnAbility's Specialized Approach
Structured literacy is a teaching approach that emphasizes explicit and systematic instruction in phonology, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This approach is especially beneficial to children with Learning Disabilities, who have difficulties in decoding words, spelling, and reading comprehension. The structured literacy approach provides a structured and cumulative path to learning that builds on students' prior knowledge and gradually introduces new concepts. For 19 years, LearnAbility has provided an effective way to help children with reading disorders and other students who need explicit and systematic instruction in reading and writing.
Reading Comprehension
Reading Comprehension is among one of the hardest skills to teach. It requires more than reading and asking questions. Reading Comprehension can be impacted by any number of things including: attention, memory, processing or dyslexia. We have a formula for building comprehension that was developed from years of research, observation and implementation. Our students learn to think and understand differently. Although there are a variety of strategic approaches used for building reading comprehension, one of our most common offerings is Visualizing and Verbalizing.

Phonological and Phonemic Awareness Development
Research has shown that children who struggle with phonological awareness are more likely to experience difficulties in reading and writing. Phonological awareness is a key foundational skill that supports the development of other literacy skills, such as decoding, spelling, and comprehension. LearnAbility staff are trained in and integrate the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing program and the Lindamood Seeing Stars program.
